Merchant's Urchins Parade  On Saturday, October 27th come Downtown for a Costume Parade followed by Pumpkin Painting!  The annual Merchant’s Urchins Parade begins at 9:45 am at New Street in  New Roc City  and ends at Library Green Park. Treats and pumpkin-painting on the Green follows. BID Family Days are made possible by a partnership with the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) in conjunction with the Library, City School District and Parks & Recreation!

   The Museum of Arts & Culture will showcase the work of New Rochelle High School alumni artists as part of ArtsFest next weekend, September 22^nd and 23^rd. Created by 2009 graduates Jesus Baez and Rebecca Mills, the show, titled “Concept Cube,” was designed to show off the skills of the New Rochelle High School art alumni while also highlighting the strength of the school’s visual arts program. The exhibit features works in a variety of media including painting, photography, sculpture and video. 

The MAC will be open Thursday night, September 20^th as part of the ArtsFest preview, and again on Saturday, September 22^nd from 12:30 to 5 pm. ArtsFest, organized by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, is a weekend-long celebration featuring free art exhibits and performances at 32 venues in New Rochelle and Pelham; for a complete calendar of ArtsFest events visit www.newrochellearts.org.

New Rochelle High School

     Mr. Baez is currently signed with Tearsheet Education and is also a freelance graphics designer and fashion photographer. Ms. Mills works for the Pelham Art Center as the weekend assistant and is a feminist illustrator. Baez and Mills are currently collaborating on numerous projects and “aspire to arouse an art movement in New Rochelle adopting young underground artists.”

11:30- 5pm New Rochelle's own AJ's Burgers & New Rochelle Chevrolet will host an Innovative Classic Car Show adjacent to City Hall. Beautiful preserved classic cars from the 20th & 21st centuries will be on display.

12-6 Lincoln Avenue Arts & Culture Fest: Dance performances, drumming, exhibitions, film screenings, cultural bazaar and a garden tour. Lincoln Avenue and Remington Place.

12-5:30  Downtown Circus Performers: Jugglers, fire-spinners, unicyclists and clowns entertain throughout the entire downtown area courtesy of the New Rochelle Public Library and the Downtown Business Improvement District.

12-5:30 Potpourri at the PAC House Theater The Monroe Drama Club performs scenes from "Proof" and "Fool for Love" Westchester Review Literary Journal & Writers from Hudson to the Sound will read from their works. Live music, art gallery exhibit & a fish fry.

Straight Drive Bluegrass- Hudson Park Sounds (Video)

The New Rochelle Summer Sounds continue tomorrow night with Straight Drive- A bluegrass band with a heck of a lot of blues at the Hudson Park Bandshell tonight.

 Straight Drive was founded  in 2001and gets their name from the type of music they play–straight bluegrass with plenty of drive. The band has kept its identity firmly grounded in the grit and intensity of the classic, first generation performers of bluegrass music. As bluegrass great Ron Thomason has said, "Straight Drive plays bluegrass the way Bill Monroe or Carter Stanley conceived of it." A fan once described Straight Drive's sound as "bluegrass with no apologies."

Wildcliff Artist Showcase- Scintillating Sounds

I cannot think of a better way to spend your Sunday (7/15) afternoon than to pack a picnic and come out to Wildcliff and listen to the sounds of the first showcase by The Nursery. Admission is FREE and the view is priceless.  One of the featured artists is New Rochelle native Nicole Marie (see video below). She has an angelic voice that I would compare to the ethereal Esperanza Spalding, but with a dash of funk. The showcase starts at 12:30 and the jamming will continue till half past 4. Other musical acts include: I&I, The Blanks, J-EA, Jake Backer, The Rochamnros, Ladybird Johnson and Sam Friend's Jazz Trio. If your musical tastes include folk, jazz, Latin and hip hop, this is the show for you. Eric Woodlin, founder of Incoming Tide, gave birth to the idea of an outdoor concert series at Wildcliff in 2009 and he continues to bring us musicians from the 914 with talent galore.

Castle Gallery - Lords and Ladies welcome

                                                                                          

Are you looking for something the entire family can do together? Well look no further, The Castle Gallery (Formerly Leland Castle), located on the campus of The College of  New Rochelle is just what the King and Queen ordered.  Spend a few hours and get lost in the in the various exhibits. The exhibits change three times a year and the best part is that they are all free to the the public. This weekend is celebrate family fun day.  On Sunday April 29th from 1-4 on the Maura lawn. There will be food, magic and games for the entire family to enjoy.
