Summer Concert Series - Sounds on the Sound


Free Summer Sounds Concert Series Every Wednesday Night

Provided by New Rochelle Council on the Arts
At Hudson Park every Wednesday night through August 28th

     Alive ‘N Kickin’  – Best known for its 1970 Top Ten hit “Tighter and Tighter” – remains the kind of band that can get listeners up on their feet. Visitors to Hudson park Wednesday night will have the chance to find out for themselves as Alive ‘N Kickin’ kicks off the annual Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series at 7:30 pm.

     The Summer Sounds concert series, which features an eclectic menu of free music on eight consecutive Wednesdays in July and August, is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, 

     The full Summer Sounds Concert Series schedule includes:
July 17th:        The Emil Paolucci Memorial Concert will feature sophisticated swing from Manhattan Jazz.
July 24th:        Folk and roots music performed by Caroline Doctorow and the Steamrollers.
July 31st  :      Roxy Perry’s Traveling Roadhouse brings the blues to Hudson park, with Perry’s distinctive voice and harp.
Aug. 7th :       New Rochelle Opera, co-sponsored by Metro Med, offers favorite selections from opera, operetta and Broadway..
Aug. 14th :     Silver Streaks serves up a potpourri of songs and styles.
  Aug. 21st :    Jimi Hendrix cover band Third Stone from the Sun.
Aug. 28th :     Streets of the Bronx Band winds up the season with a concert of 1950s and do-wop favorites.

No Plain Jane Here - PAC House Tunes

As the 1st place winner of the internationally acclaimed 17th Annual Great American Jazz Piano competition, Sarah Jane Cion, can tickle the ivories with the best of them. This New England Conservatory honors graduate has rhythm & music- who could ask for anything more? 



She brings her magical fingers to the PAC House theater on Saturday  November 16th @8pm. For tickets, log onto Smart Tix for a $5 discount before the show. Accompanying her will be Jeffrey Lutz & Ratzo Harris.  This internationally know pianist has performed in Japan, Israel, Portugal and Germany. Her music was featured on All My Children and she  published a Jazz piano instruction manual, which is currently being used as the primary text at several college jazz programs including The Westminster Conservatory at Rider University in New Jersey.

Concept Cube - Nothing square about this

      
   The Museum of Arts & Culture will showcase the work of New Rochelle High School alumni artists as part of ArtsFest next weekend, September 22nd and 23rd. Created by 2009 graduates Jesus Baez and Rebecca Mills, the show, titled “Concept Cube,” was designed to show off the skills of the New Rochelle High School art alumni while also highlighting the strength of the school’s visual arts program. The exhibit features works in a variety of media including painting, photography, sculpture and video. 


The MAC will be open Thursday night, September 20th as part of the ArtsFest preview, and again on Saturday, September 22nd from 12:30 to 5 pm. ArtsFest, organized by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, is a weekend-long celebration featuring free art exhibits and performances at 32 venues in New Rochelle and Pelham; for a complete calendar of ArtsFest events visit www.newrochellearts.org.


New Rochelle High School
     Mr. Baez is currently signed with Tearsheet Education and is also a freelance graphics designer and fashion photographer. Ms. Mills works for the Pelham Art Center as the weekend assistant and is a feminist illustrator. Baez and Mills are currently collaborating on numerous projects and “aspire to arouse an art movement in New Rochelle adopting young underground artists.”

Music to Your Ears - Feastival on the Sound


The New Rochelle Arts Festival rolls into town Saturday September 22nd/23rd  & brings the sounds from the Sound with them. This two day festival has an abundance of musicians to have you dancing in the streets.

Saturday 1-2pm
Sing Along with the Songcatchers @ Garito Manor: Sr.Beth Dowd will lead her Songcatchers Choir and residents in singing a variety of songs.

Sunday 3-5pm
New Rochell Opera @ Iona College presents Four Sopranos. Admission $20/$18

Saturday 12-6
Drumming Circle with Damon Jackson. Head to the Lincoln Park Community Garden to express your self as you dance to the rhythm.

Sunday 3-4pm
Harps o' Plenty! The Westchester Harp Ensemble at Pelham Art Center featuring a performance by Lois Colin and her class of talented students.
